Composting/Organics Management.
00:24Given that Ontario County is closing the landfill in 2028, the 2026 National Community Survey included questions about the City’s solid waste management services to assist the City in making decisions about the future of solid waste services. The survey resulted in 80% of respondents expressing support for the introduction of a composting or food scrap collection program and 70% support for a curbside food scrap collection. City Staff will review a cost estimate if we were to introduce a curbside collection program.
Lagoon Park/Parcel V.
17:51The Canandaigua Area Development Corporation (CADC) would like to donate to the City the 5.5-acre parcel adjacent to Lagoon Park known as Parcel V. The use of this parcel, if donated, would be strictly for parkland and for the integration and connectivity of the site into Lagoon Park. The City has solicited firms for a schematic design plan. The design would expand upon the concept design included in the City’s Waterfront Parks Master Plan from 2022. We have received one proposal for $18,400. The City Manager recommends allocating $20,000 from the Parks and Open Space Reserve and are awaiting a second proposal.
Tree Removal Ordinance.
23:35At the last Ordinance Committee, the committee discussed regulating the removal of trees on private property. The general discussion revolved around protecting the trees to reduce flooding. Trees can help reduce runoff by absorbing water and slowing it down as it reaches the ground. However, trees do not prevent flooding. and are just a part of a larger solution that can help reduce the risk or severity of flooding. Staff is looking for guidance on the policy objective to draft an ordinance for consideration.
St John’s Court Parking.
41:58A representative from Gleaner’s Kitchen requested improvements to the Main Street pedestrian crossing at the church or for the City to allow parking along St John’s Court. Currently, St John’s Court prohibits parking on the west side of the street completely and the east side is restricted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. There is proper street width to allow on-street parking on one side of the street.
E-bikes.
01:01:43E-bikes were discussed at the June Ordinance Committee meeting. Council ultimately approved the purchase of a police e-bike to aide in enforcement efforts. Councilmember Squires requested staff review the recently adopted ordinances in Pittsford and Geneva and potentially adopt something similar.
